Resetting Your Password
- I need to reset my application password and I am the only admin in Spiceworks
- I need to reset my application password and there are other admins in my installation
- I need to reset my Spiceworks Community password
Changing Your Password From Outside The App
We've included a utility to reset your password outside of the app. To reset your password please perform the following steps:- Stop Spiceworks if it's running by right-clicking on the Spiceworks SysTray icon and selecting Exit. This is important because the utility will be writing to your database and corruption can occur if Spiceworks is still running.
- Open Windows Task Manager and end the following processes if they are still running:
- spiceworks.exe
- spicetray.exe
- spiceworks-finder.exe
- Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the directory where you installed Spiceworks. The default install directory is:
C:\Program Files\Spiceworks
- Right-click
Reset_Password.exeand select Run as administrator. a command prompt window will open prompting you to enter the appropriate email address (this process can take several minutes for the prompt to appear - please be patient). You should enter the email address you use to log in to Spiceworks. Note: email address is case-sensitive; i.e.name@domain.comis different thanName@domain.com.
- Your password is now reset to spiceworks (all lower case). You should probably change the password again to something only you know. You can do this by navigating to Settings → User Accounts and clicking on the password field next to your email address.
How to find a lost admin email address
Did you inherit a Spiceworks installation and don't know what email address to use to login? You can find this information through the logs. Restart Spiceworks through the system tray icon and wait a few minutes for it to finish starting up. Then open up the production log found under c:\Program Files\Spiceworks\log\production.log. You should be able to find the admin email address in the first few lines.Have A Fellow Admin Reset Your Password
The easiest way to reset your password may not be that obvious, but if you have another admin set up in your installation, just have him or her login as normal and navigate to Settings → User Accounts. From here, they can set it to something simple for you to be able to login, then you can change it once you're in.Reset Your Community Account Password
If you've forgotten your Community account password, try to login anyways and you should get a link to have it reset when you enter the incorrect credentials. Click the link, provide your email address, check that email (be sure to check any spam folders or filters), then click the link in the email to reset the password.Related Information
